Beijing, February 12th—Liu Jianchao, Minister of the International Department of the CPC Central Committee (IDCPC), met here today with Niclas Kvarnstr?m, Managing Director for Asia and Pacific of the European External Action Service.

Liu said, this year marks the 50th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between China and the European Union (EU). The Chinese side sees Europe as an important pole in this multipolar world, supports European integration, and supports European strategic autonomy. The Chinese side is ready to work with the EU side to implement the important consensus reached by President Xi Jinping and European leaders, and hopes both sides to see each other partners, establish a correct understanding, and achieve win-win cooperation and common development. As two major global forces, China and the EU should strengthen exchanges and cooperation in various fields, jointly maintain world peace and stability, and promote development and prosperity. The CPC is willing to conduct political dialogues with regional political parties of Europe and parliamentary groups of political parties in the European Parliament to enhance mutual understanding and strategic mutual trust and promote China-EU relations for healthy and stable development.

Kvarnstr?m said, since the establishment of diplomatic relations between the EU and China 50 years ago, substantial progress has been made in EU-China relations, exerting an important impact on the world. Despite the differences between the EU and China, both sides can cooperate in a wide range of areas to achieve mutual benefit and win-win results. Both the EU and China respect the purposes of the UN Charter and safeguard free trade. The EU side is willing to properly handle economic and trade differences with the Chinese side through dialogue and consultation and jointly respond to global challenges.

The two sides also exchanged views on international and regional issues such as the Ukraine crisis.

Ma Hui, Vice-minister of the IDCPC, and Jorge Toledo Albi?ana, Head of the EU Delegation to China, were present.
