Consensus Reached at the 9th Meeting of China-Japan Ruling Parties Exchange Mechanism

Beijing, January 14th—The 9th Meeting of China-Japan ruling parties exchange mechanism was held here today. Representatives of the CPC, the Liberal Democratic Party and the Komeito Party of Japan were present.  

Both sides believed that the mechanism has played an important political leading role in promoting the development of China-Japan relations since its inception in 2006, and welcomed the restart of the meeting of the mechanism after a lapse of six years and three months. 

Focusing on the theme of "China-Japan relations under great changes — missions and responsibilities of the ruling parties", the two sides had a candid exchange of views on the important responsibilities and roles that China and Japan should assume in maintaining the international order based on international law amid the turbulent changes in the world. Both sides had in-depth discussions and a candid exchange of views on enhancing mutual trust, expanding people-to-people and cultural exchanges and deepening mutually beneficial cooperation. 

The two sides agreed to follow the direction indicated by the leaders of the two countries, adhere to the principles enshrined in the four China-Japan political documents, work together to promote China-Japan strategic relationship of mutual benefit in an all-round way, and build a constructive and stable China-Japan relationship that meets the requirements of the new era. To this end, the ruling parties of the two countries will continue to strengthen dialogue. 

The two sides confirmed that no matter what situation China-Japan relations face, both sides must maintain close dialogue and communication, strengthen exchanges between the political parties, political figures and young politicians, enhance mutual understanding and trust, and lay a solid political foundation for improving and developing China-Japan relations and building a constructive and stable China-Japan relationship. 

The two sides exchanged views on issues such as releasing the Fukushima nuclear-contaminated water into the ocean and the import of Japanese aquatic products, and agreed to promote the implementation of the consensus reached by the two governments, accelerate communication and consultation, and properly handle respective concerns. 

The two sides confirmed that they will continue to promote practical cooperation through exchanges between the ruling parties, and agreed in principle to hold the 10th meeting in Japan this autumn.
